I create vector reconstructions of vintage cartoon backgrounds, working from screenshots of original film frames. These are paired with original animation cels for collectors. The work is detailed, time-intensive, and often requires a bit of detective work to rebuild areas hidden behind characters or props. With few exceptions, it’s all done using the pen tool in Illustrator. I’ve recreated hundreds of backgrounds across a wide range of styles and in the process, I’ve gotten an informal master class in the visual language of animation.
